Tour Description

Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado

• Arrival and Transfer: Upon arrival from Cusco or Lima, you will be welcomed and transferred along the Madre de Dios riverbank to Tambopata Aguti Expedition. Along the way, observe local settlements, rice fields, banana plantations, fish farms, and riverbank bird species like skimmers, sandpipers, crowned herons, jabirus, hawks, kingfishers, swallows, and flycatchers.
• Lodge Orientation: Upon arrival, settle into the eco-house and learn about its sustainable design, which blends comfort with harmony in the Amazonian environment.
• Afternoon Activities:
  • Ethnobotanical Walk: Explore an interpretative area along the Madre de Dios River, gaining insights into local flora and their uses.
  • Canopy Observation Tower (30 meters): Enjoy panoramic views of the forest, watch birds returning home, and marvel at the sunset.
  • Zip Line: Glide through the forest on a thrilling 250-meter zip line.
  • Canopy Suspension Bridge (101 meters): Experience a walk above the forest canopy, spotting wildlife like frogs, toucans, and geckos.
  • Adventure Circuit: Tackle four challenging obstacles with difficulty levels ranging from 1 to 4, perfect for adventure enthusiasts.
• Night Walk: After sunset, explore the jungle’s nocturnal life, encountering nocturnal monkeys (Musmuqui), tarantulas, and insects.
• Dinner: Return to the lodge for a delicious meal and rest in the eco-house.

Day 2: Full-Day Sandoval Lake Expedition

• Early Morning: After an early breakfast, visit Lake Sandoval in the Tambopata National Reserve.
  • Trek and Rowing Boat: A one-hour walk leads to the lake, followed by a peaceful boat ride to observe wildlife.
  • Wildlife Spotting: Look out for turtles, riparian birds, the peculiar shansho, and river otters—the largest freshwater otters in the world, including a resident family of seven individuals.
• Lunch: Enjoy a tropical Amazonian box lunch and relax by the lake.
• Afternoon: Refresh in the designated swimming area of the lake before returning to the lodge in time for dinner.
• Optional Activity: If energy allows, enjoy a bonfire under the majestic starry night.

Day 3: La Cachuela Parrot Clay Lick

• Early Wake-Up Call (4:15 AM): Visit the Cachuela Parrot Clay Lick, where hundreds of parrots and macaws gather to eat clay, which provides essential minerals for detoxification and social interaction. Witness up to seven species of parrots and macaws in a magical morning show.
• Breakfast: Return to the lodge for breakfast before departing.
• Transfer Back: Head to Puerto Maldonado for your flight back to Cusco or Lima.
